Episode 24

Welcome to season three of the Kumbay’all podcast! Some downtime was needed due to Covid and the birth of Amanda’s second child, but we are happy to be back with you!

In this episode Amanda talks with Bree Hibbs-Kenny, RYT, TCTSY-F about Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Bree joined Amanda’s practice in 2021 and offers several forms of Authentic Movement Practice, one of which is Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

Bree had a good relationship with her body until 7 years ago when she had a stroke. She struggled afterwards and had to teach herself how to do normal activities again like reading, walking, etc. Yoga gave her relief and helped pull her out of a deep depression, and helped her rebuild her relationship with her body. During this time she found Trauma Sensitive Yoga and began training as a facilitator.

In this episode they discuss:

Why Bree prefers the term ‘body-mind connection’ instead of ‘mind-body connection’

Why we want to listen to our body’s whispers

How practicing being ‘in’ your body and listening to your body can impact other areas of your life

Why being in survival mode is so disruptive to our lives and how getting out of it can help us

Amanda’s reflections on what a Trauma Sensitive Yoga session is like with Bree, and how it is different than a ‘normal’ yoga session

Who could benefit from a Trauma Sensitive Yoga session
